Gion Matsuri 2023: Mikoshi Arai Ceremony.
Last Monday, I braved the Kyoto heat and went to Yasaka Shrine. There was a lot of commotion. A short time-lapse clip.
A Shinto ritual is performed on the Kamogawa Shijo Ohashi Bridge. The Mikoshi are cleansed with sacred water from the Kamo River. They leave the Yasaka shrine around 7.00 pm and carry a burning torch. They return around 8.30 pm.
