This series of images carefully document the empty spaces of the old Royal Rehabilitation Hospital in Ryde, Sydney. Once called the NSW Home For incurables these rooms accommodated patients suffering from profound injures and conditions that required full time care. The main building, Weemala, is now earmarked for redevopment after the hospital moved to a new premises. This meant the rooms were largely devoid of furniture and belongings. On the surface the rooms were therefore sparse and lonely, but the air was still thick with a rich past and many memories and I can only begin to imagine the stories of bravery, hardship and dedication both on the part of the patients and the carers.
