Dominic Jones London Fashion Week 2014 (Mesh Repair)

I was invited to work on a project for Dominic Jones, to repair and refine scanning data so that it could be used to aid Dominic in creating his collection for London Fashion week 2014.

The software package Zbrush was used to carry out the repairs on the obj files.
The images below display both before and after renders of both flowers.

Editing scanning data requires the use of digital sculpting techniques. A Wacom intuos 5 graphics tablet was used during this process.
Using Dynamesh and Z-remeshing tools within Zbrush I was then able to re-toplogized the scan and edit it further.
Excess mesh from the scan was extracted to ensure the flower kept its original identity and characteristics.
Processed Scan
Addtional mesh extracted, polished and re-touched
The second scan required repairs to be made on both the front and back sections. Again the mesh was Dynameshed and Zremeshed to ease re-sculpting process.
Using the Dynamesh tool at a suitable resolution can aid you in closing holes and broken geometry.
Processed Scan, areas repaired, re-touched and re-sculpted.
The repaired scans were converted into .stl files and sent to Felix Manley who 3D printed each piece on a Makerbot replicator two.
The 3D printed pieces were cast at a foundry and electroplated in Gold.
The final collection consisted of several rings a pendant a necklace and a pair earrings.
I really enjoyed working on this project as it utilised traditional jewellery manufacturing techniques with a touch of modern technology to produce something truly outstanding.
