Museum of Belgrade's devastation, Kosančićev venac

MUSEUM OF BELGRADE'S DEVASTATION AT KOSANČIĆEV VENAC / Belgrade
Studio project / Master studies - Spring semester 2007
Belgrade was conquered, burned down, liberated and bombarded numerous times (last was in 1999).
The city itself is the Museum of its own devastation throughout the history - it only lacks the proper entrance.
And there it is, the site of the National Library, destroyed in 1941 in German bombing of Belgrade... in the heart of "the area of the oldest Serbian settlement, the first developed administrative, cultural, spiritual and economic center of the city with specific ambient qualities", which decays since 1979, when it was listed as Monument of Culture.
It was a study of emptiness, like there was an envolope around the site and inside it - there was nothing
The look of site in the spring of 2007
If we are building in a memorial environment, a cultural district, are we building a monument?
