Les Misérables Conceptual Book Covers
For my Graphic Design course
For this project, I have chosen to create my conceptual book covers for Les Misérables, a favorite classic of mine.
Cover 1: Designer's Choice
For this design, I used Adobe Illustrator to create an image of Jean Valjean emerging from the sewers, carrying and unconscious Marius.
Cover 2: Physical Material/Handmade
For this design I created and printed out a "ticket of leave," and had my wife sign "Jean Valjean" on the line. I then ripped the ticket (which Jean does in the book), photographed the pieces, and used them in my design, which I created using Photoshop.
Cover 3: Type Only
This third design was created using primarily typography. I utilized the title of the book to create a barricade, which plays a major role in the book. I tried to assemble the letters in order to make the title legible, but still convey that barricade idea that I was going for. The only non-type element used here (other than the background) is a man standing resolutely on the barricade holding a flag, I thought necessary to convey the meaning of the design.
Thank for checking out my hard work.
