At the start of 2019, I decided I wanted to create a mobile VR game. I worked on it for months, but when the pandemic hit my motivation tanked. However, the work is still good, so I shall show it off here.
Gameplay Video
This video shows off the introduction scene of the game. It was recorded on an Oculus Quest 1. It was difficult to get the level of detail I wanted on the Quest 1, but it ended up looking and performing very well.
I used a lot of animations from Mixamo for Max, as well as using my VR gear for motion capture. But I modelled, textured, programmed, and lit everything you see, and even made the music.
Max
Max was meant to be the players AI companion. She has many expression animations. Her emotions were controlled dynamically based on the situation in front of her. That meant, if she spent a while in a fight, she would come out of it looking distressed, and slowly recover assuming you avoid conflict.
I'm unsure if I'll return to this game, I'm currently working on a game that's smaller in scope and less ambitions. I feel, despite the work being good, I bit off a bit more than I can chew with this project. I love Max as a character though, I hope to include her in a project sometime in the future.
