Palm Springs Icons

This is an icon system I did for my illustration class at San Diego City College. I chose to do a Palm Springs inspired icon set that could be used by the visitor center. These icons could be used in pamphlets and magazines as well as used for patterns to print on shirts, make stickers and tote bags.
The problem was trying to incorporate the feeling of Palm Springs into simple icons. The solution came from a use of color, style and use of shadows. The colors are mid century inspired to transport you back in time. The style I chose was a bit rougher and imperfect to give the icons more personality. The use of shadows reminds us of the bright sunny Palm Springs days with the sun beating down. The objects I chose were inspired by the architecture of the town as well as the mid century aesthetic. The palm tree and Joshua tree are iconic to that location and the windmills represent all the windmill farms near the town.
