DESIGN ETHICS ZINE
This project consists of an illustrated zine of 12-pages on the ethical practices and principles of the design discipline of representation and illustrations/designs. The zine is presented as a manifesto and include 6 guiding principles and Illustrations reflecting my personal voice on the archetypes of the “mean girl” character in comedy teenage films and how to prevent these archetypes become stereotypes in reality. Teenagers judge each other and classify others into stereotypes based on the archetypes of characters in comedy teenage films. This manifesto contains 6 guidelines how to design a “mean girl” character in comedy teenage films by using archetypes and prevent these archetypes to become stereotypes in reality. These 6 guidelines include: diversity in meanness, beyond character appearance, humanization, avoiding extremes, not simplifying to one trait and positioning of character. The zine target character designers for teenage films who need to design a “mean girl” character. The visual aesthetic of the zine consists of a “yearbook” for a character design school that students receive at the end of the year, but this Zine yearbook also include six guidelines and illustrations on how to design a “mean girl” character in comedy teenage films. In the yearbook, each character describes a guideline for the mean girl archetype with a name and illustration of the character. At the end of a yearbook/zine there’s a page for your own notes for you to conceptualize your own “mean girl” character based on the guidelines. Colors like maroon and orange is used because it doesn’t it with the one typical mean girl character for example pink for a popular “mean girl” or black for an outcast “mean girl”. The color palette is a include all types of “mean girls” including the popular, nerd and outcast “mean girl” character in comedy teen films. The guideline’s text has a formal tone of voice to show the speaker is serious about the problem. This zine will learn designers how to conceptualize a “mean girl” character base on archetypes in comedy teenage films to prevent teenager's classify others into stereotypes of “mean girls” in the reality.
