Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have signed England's Jason Roy to replace the ailing Shreyas Iyer. Roy has been inked for INR 2.8 crore for the IPL 2023, up from INR 1.5 crore. Roy is scheduled to arrive in Ahmedabad immediately following Thursday's game. Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the competition due to a lower back injury, while Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has confirmed his season-long absence.


Roy previously played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2021 season. He had earlier played in the 2017 and 2018 seasons.Iyer made the decision to have his surgery in London. The 28-year-old's back injury is linked to his disc, according to a Cricbuzz report. When he also experienced a back injury that could have ended his career, Hardik Pandya decided to travel to London for treatment. Star pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna, however, have chosen to receive their medical care in New Zealand.
