Already authors of two albums, IST IST is a group that I discovered at the release of this new opus. From the first notes, we discover, not without annoyance, yet another variation of Joy Division, with the added bonus of a voice (too) similar to that of the late Ian Curtis. However, this conventional approach envelops a catchy melodic force and unexpected moments of grace in a musical space as restricted as it is referenced.
By spreading out over ten titles, the Mancunians brush aside all our doubts: the clichéd postures ultimately contribute to a sensitive evocation and in no way prevent some more contemporary variations. This Protagonists becomes striking and, without the intention of renewing a genre or opening a new chapter, offers a sincere and devilishly effective vision: this album goes beyond prejudice and stands out as evidence in the interesting productions of this year.
