When I was young, my grandparents had a painting of a fatty strip of uncooked bacon in their kitchen. The oil painting looked slick and greasy as if it were freshly cut. It is the strongest memory I've had of mornings in the dim lit room filled with creamy yellow cupboards with black spade shape iron handles.
