The Seattle Public Library Website Redesign

Insight
If you happen to find yourself in Downtown Seattle, passing along 4th Avenue, you'll most likely be amazed by this great building right at the heart of the city - The Seattle Public Library. This particular insight is what led me to the overall look and feel of the redesigned SPL website -  the physical space and location of the library is what makes people want to visit it.

The main landing page of the new SPL website reveals a part of, and gives the user a glimpse of what the actual library looks and feels like.
The new SPL website is image heavy and relies on a simple typographic treatment. Everything is presented within the screen, so there's no need to scroll up/down to look for information.

This ensures that users are not overwhelmed with too much information. At the same time, this invites them to explore what the website and the actual library has to offer them.
The image-heavy and simple type treatment is also applied to pages with more content, such as SPLs wide collection of books and other media. It becomes even more simple when viewed on smart phones.
To get a sense of how it works on a tablet and on a smart phone, feel free to check out the videos below.
