The elevation view of Municipal Motomachi High-Rise Apartment published in the architectural magazine "Urban Housing" depicts a small human figure with its left hand raised above its head. The presence of the figure, which is reminiscent of Le Corbusier's "Modulor," an architectural proportion system based on the body, suggests that the Motomachi High-Rise Apartment was designed based on a certain body scale. This system is related to DIN 4171, published in Germany in 1942, which indicates that the averaging of the body promoted rational spatial design, but also contributed to dehumanizing work spaces and the exclusion of minorities. This study is focusing on the negative effect of averaging bodies in Japanese society and considering the Japanese society’s intolerance towards immigrants form Asian countries.

「都市住宅」という建築雑誌に掲載された基町高層アパートの立面図には、左手を上にあげた小さな人影が描かれている。ル・コルビュジエが考案した、身体を基準とした建築の比率システム「モデュロール」を思わせる人影の存在は、基町高層アパートが、ある身体スケールを基準に設計されたことを暗示している。このシステムは、1942年にドイツで発表されたDIN4171と関連しており、身体の平均化が合理的な空間デザインを促進させたと同時に、身体を機械化するような非人間的な労働空間やマイノリティーの除外にも加担したことを示している。基町高層アパートに潜む近代建築としての側面に注目しながら、日本社会における平均化された身体について考察する。
