"Kon-Tiki” vuol dire letteralmente “Dio Sole” ed è il nome della zattera costruita nella primavera del 1947 dall'esploratore norvegese Thor Heyerdahl, che partì dalle coste del Perù deciso a raggiungere via mare le isole della Polinesia Francese. Senza remi, senza motore, sfruttando solo la corrente marina, i venti alisei e la buona sorte: 101 giorni in mare aperto assieme a un pappagallo e cinque compagni di viaggio che non avevano mai navigato prima di allora.
Thor partì per dimostrare che 1.000 anni prima lo stesso viaggio poteva essere stato intrapreso da un popolo primitivo in fuga dagli Inca.
Per dimostrare che da sempre l'uomo affronta il mare aperto, per sete di scoperta e conoscenza o mosso dalla speranza di una vita migliore.
"Kon-Tiki" literally means "Sun God" and is the name of the raft built in the spring of 1947 by the Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl, who set sail from the coast of Peru to reach the islands of French Polynesia by sea. Without oars, without an engine, taking advantage only of the sea current, the trade winds and good luck: 101 days in the open sea together with a parrot and five traveling companions who had never sailed before.
Thor set out to prove that 1,000 years earlier the same journey could have been undertaken by a primitive people fleeing the Incas.
To demonstrate that man has always faced the open sea, out of a thirst for discovery and knowledge or moved by the hope of a better life.
