Brushwork Beast Branding

Brushwork Beast is a local STL company that creates
innovative art products. The company aims to make
creating art easier and faster for the artist by developing
art tools like paintbrushes and easels.
Brushwork Beast’s brand focuses on the idea of the newest generation having a company
that understands them. Innovative art tools require bold and daring artists, and the
brand reflects their boldness. Brushwork Beast also wanted to show the luxuriousness
of their products. I sketched the logo over 150 times until we chose the lion with horns.
The choice of sharp edges and jagged strokes is inspired by art deco elements, an era of
art where the style of the 1920s shined throughout history. The petrol blue color helps
to contrast with the orange-gold and supports the lion’s boldness and luxurious style.
Following the logo are the font and name of the company. “Brushwork” reinforces the
brand as an art-supply company, while “Beast” displays an innovative and bold mission.
The font for “Brushwork” is Augus Sans, while “Beast” is RoadRage. These decisions were
to make the font indicative of the text they represent.

The length of branding took around three weeks to complete. I spent the first week
sketching logos and mock-ups for the brand. We settled on a logo and business card
that would become a centerpiece for a modern trendy art company. January 2022.
