2023 College Football National Championship | Los Angeles, CA
I was selected as one of three (Wyeth Collins & Connor Henkle) Graphic Designers for the 2023 National Championship game in Los Angeles, CA. We worked under Erin Prokell to develop the creative, branding, and style for all the graphic content coming out of the @CFBPLAYOFFS socials for the week.
Behind the Design
As a design team, we had a couple of meetings to discuss the branding we wanted for the week. Our key pillars were additive text elements, the competing teams' colors (red + purple), and the golden theme that the CFP had already initiated that year in LA. We were all very intentional about the fact that we wanted the look to be clean, focused, and easily adaptable for photo-driven graphics when necessary.
While meeting on the first night, we realized that red + purple + gold are all notable colors in a sunset, so we wanted to highlight that. I pulled tons of inspiration from the signage in LA, and that is how and why I initially decided to focus on gradients. As the week went on, my style and graphics evolved. Thanks to Erin, we could all interpret the look in our own way, allowing each individual to create in their style. We each brought graphics and ideas to the table and combined the elements we liked from each design to add to every graphic to make the look different yet somewhat synonymous.
For my side of the graphics, I went for an abstract sunset look and wanted to nod to the Hollywood film industry, so I created a look to help tie in some of the elements coupled with the textures I used for the NY6 Bowl Games.
