GCSE Multifunctional Table

Design Brief supplied by the examiner - create a multifunctional space
I created a table around learning, playing and eating for ages 4-6 years. Storage was one of the main requirements expressed by the client and was achieved in the outcome. The manufacturing process involved laser cutting the plastic I designed on 2D design software. The lengths of plastic seen in the first picture were glued using a syringe to ensure accuracy. These act as supports for the inner walls to allow the spring tunnels to compact and store away when not in use. The artwork can be used as a learning feature and makes the table more inviting to children. The paint was added to the grooves scored by the laser cutter.
The finished table is a scaled down concept. The spring shows how the child's tunnel would look and how it would compress between the outer wall and inner wall to store the tunnel without effecting the available space inside the table and the access into to the play space. The table has a continued theme of animals with the bugs, bees and farm animals to expand the child's knowledge of animals.
