NeoPop Junji Itō
Personal project - Handmade Pixel-Art - 2023
Portrait of Junji Itō.
Junji Itō is a Japanese horror manga artist. He is best known for his works "The Enigma of Amigara Fault" and "Uzumaki," both of which have been adapted into live-action films. Itō's works often feature surreal and grotesque imagery and have gained a large following in Japan and internationally.
This creation is part of a purely NeoPop artistic approach. Strongly inspired by the 80s/90s and popular culture, this graphic work uses its codes: pixel-art, 8-bit design, colors inspired by the world of video games, dialogue portraits (avatar), characters from Pop culture, etc
The different resolutions allow you to take a fresh look at stars more or less known to everyone.
Due to its minimalist aspect, pixel-art is in essence a distorted representation of our reality.
Each time the resolution changes, we see the representation of this character vanish or anchor a little more in reality. This approach immediately echoes our modern Western society which highlights values such as starification, appearance and immediacy.
To become known is to prepare to no longer be so.
