Losas: Guayervas, 2022

This project amalgamates losas criollas (hydraulic tiles found in El Veijo San Juan, Puerto Rico) with the portrait of the taina cacica Guayervas from Otoao (Utuado, PR) who lead a rebellion against Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century. Here multiple distressed layers of tiles reveal the figure of Guayervas which in the animated reel is rearranged to solve like a puzzle.
