Heritage Day, also known as Braai day is a South African holiday which gets celebrated each year on 24 September. This project consists of an illustrated display font inspired by Jan Braai recipes, that are intended for a specific target market to bring awareness of Braaidag through an interactive specimen poster and editorial illustration spread. National Braai day initiatives were founded in 2005 and encourage all South Africans to unite around res on 24 September each year. Jan Braai, an Afrikaans braai legend, stand ahead of this organization. Jan Braai’s goal is to bring South African’s together as a rainbow nation each year for Braai day to celebrate their heritage and deferent cultures and traditions. The goal is to encourage people to celebrate their heritage with Jan Braai on Braai day and to get people excited for the upcoming Braai day. The target audience include Afrikaners (people who speak Afrikaans) who love their culture and traditions and want to share their heritage on National Braai day. An editorial illustration with an article is illustrated in an Afrikaans magazine, Taalgenoot, informing people of Jan Braai’s story and the upcoming Braai day. To interact with the audience a specimen poster of a display typeface font is attached in the magazine. This poster can fold into an A5 booklet which contains two of Jan Braai’s recipes and a shopping list for the recipe ingredients for users to use if they decide to make the attached recipe for the upcoming Braai day. Each display font glyph represents an ingredient on the list. This encourages people to celebrate their Braai day with Jan Braai. The illustrated display font will have a colorful color palette with a consistency in saturation. The illustrations will have a playful and exciting tone of voice to keep the audience excited and interested. The illustrations will illustrate traditional Afrikaans food used in the recipes to support the idea of Braai day.
