Crossroad of Realities (BTS // GTAV // Benoit Paillé)

In the photographic performance of GTAV, the artist Benoit Paillé wants to demonstrate that photography is nothing but a distortion of reality, a means of transcribing a tiny part of our vision and perception of our world.

He shows that photography in a virtual environment is no less legitimate, from an artistic standpoint, than photography in the real world. This project addresses both notions of border and territory.

In this project, he makes real and virtual merge, bringing closer two conceptions and approaches of reality into only one picture, crossing the line between these two worlds. Throughout his wandering in the game, Benoit observes the elements around him with the same look as when he takes pictures in real life. From spectacular to simple beauty, he frames and takes pictures of what he judges interesting, with the same spontaneity and rigor that he does in the real.

The challenge being to transcript his visions from a third person standpoint, and thus to well place his character in the game, waiting for the perfect moment to take the picture. This creative process within a virtual environment entirely built by a video game company, brings Benoit Paillé to question and to make others question, the legitimacy and paternity of the works he creates.
