Cover design project for Walden, book by Henry David Thoreau.
With the illustrations, the idea was to bring a field journal atmosphere, using ink drawings by the author himself as visual elements for the cover.
The title and back quote follow the same naturalistic irregular style, like in geological or plant formations. I altered height and linear order as much as possible without losing too much readability.
For the more mechanical job of the support font, I chose Corben, a font in a classical build, with a peaceful and soft touch.
The colors were chosen based on the natural setting of the book, with tones taken from water, the sky, and from foliage in different seasons.
All the elements were put together in the cover and distributed, taking into consideration its three-dimensional nature around the book.
