Typographic Booklet
The objective of this project is to present the article "Do You Want Typography or Do You Want the Truth?" by Erik Carter in the form of a booklet. In order to do so there had to be consideration for page layout, text, and use of images.
There needs to be a consistent flow of how information is conveyed throughout the booklet. The first step is to decide which grid layout to choose. In order to do so different grid options were considered. Different grid options gave different kinds of alignment and spatial differences between bodies of text and images. The grid layout that was chosen consisted of rows of five and columns of eight due to it lending to a rhythm between the text and images.
The second step is to find a suitable type pairing. The body text had to be readable in a small size while the heading and subheading text had to be impactful. In order to choose the type pairing the x-height was compared to two different typefaces. The shape and form were also considered. The type pairing chosen were Rogliano for the body text and Fieldwork for the headings and subheadings.
Sheet to compare x-height between two different typecase.
The typeface Henriette was also chosen for pull quotes. It is in a grey tone color with halftones. This is to give texture to the page while also filling out the negative space.
All the different elements in the booklet come together to make a readable experience. Each element of the booklet, the images and different paragraphs for an example, create rhythm as they alternate between being aligned left or tight on the page. The pull quotes are there to create texture and to fill out the negative space. There is clear hierarchy between the body text and headings.  Within the headings themselves there is hierarchy as some texts are bolded to create emphasis. The end result is a booklet with a consistent flow that makes navigating through the pages easy.
