чОрНо́БиЛь спеціалізується на низовому кіновиробництві за відсутності фінансування. Фільми створені кіностудією знімаються в польових умовах поза межами кінопавільйонів, без використання декорацій, 4K зйомки та з дотриманням принципів ді-ай-вай культури.
chOrNoByL films specialises on grassroots filmmaking in the absence of funding. Films created by the film studio are shot in field conditions outside the cinema pavilions, without the use of scenery, 4K filming and in compliance with the principles of DIY culture.

Кіностудія була заснована 2020 року на дому в селі Новоселівка, Чернігівського району. Засновник кіностудії незалежний кінорежисер Ярослав Страпон. Назва кіностудії походить від міфологічного, себто народного іменування трави Поли́н звича́йний (Artemisia vulgaris).
The film studio was founded in 2020 at home in the village of Novoselivka, Chernihiv district. Founder film studio is independent film director Yaroslav Strapon. The name of the film studio comes from a the mythological name, ie folk, of the herb Artemisia vulgaris.
Розповідають, що одного разу чумак варив кашу з гадюк. Приготувавши кашу, поїв її і наказав наймитові вимити казанець і ложку. «Дивись тільки, — каже, — не пробуй моєї каші!» Наймит не втримався, нашкріб повну ложку гадючої каші і з’їв. Дивно йому стало: бачить він, як травичка хитається, одна до одної прихиляється і шепоче: «Я від такої хвороби помагаю!»; «А в мене інша сила!» Захотілося підійти до воза, а воли кажуть: «Ось іде запрягати нас у ярмо!» Чумак помітив, що наймит не послухався наказу і попробував гадючої каші. Став він із воза, вирвав стеблину чорнобилю, облупив її і каже: «На, з’їж!» Наймит з’їв і перестав чути, що кажуть трави, і розуміти мову тварин. Тому чорнобиль називають ще забудьком.

Ця гра слів і образів вказує на нестандартний підхід до створення фільмів, що побутує в кіностудії. Водночас міфологічне і апокаліптичне, які вичитуються з назви і символіки є провідними мотивами кіностудії. Обидва мотиви є ірреальними та потойбічними для сучасного світу. Вони живуть уві сні та маренні. Режисери кіностудії фільмують ці світи, експериментуючи зі зйомкою і постановкою.

Серед референсів, які використовують режисери кіностудії при створені фільмів, передусім, слід вказати на український кіноавангард, зокрема кіностудію імені О. Довженко. Саме О. Довженко присвячений перший фільм студії Хтонічними стежками.
До інших референсів, слід віднести різноманітні експериментальні напрями європейського, американського та азіатського кіно: як старі (німецький кіноекспресіонізм, cinéma vérité, італійський неореалізм, французька нова хвиля, нове німецьке кіно, новий Голлівуд, японський кінематограф), так і сучасні (Догма 95, новий французький екстремізм, грецька дивна хвиля, тайванський кінематограф).

З початком війни була відкрита львівська філія кіностудії на території колишнього заводу РЕМ-а. Львівський філіал кіностудії розмістився в ревіталізованому туалеті заводського приміщення. Урочисте відкриття львівської студії відбулося 26.04.2022 шляхом зрізання болгаркою металевої стрічки, опісля цього прошуміли гала прем’єри: Ретроградний Меркурій та Анус нескінченності via Ярік Приходько and Жан Гришін.
Фільми були вироблені в приміщенні львівської студії на початку війни.
Найбільша активність львівської філії випала на весняний період, коли відбувся ряд кіноподій, під егідою пердак продакшн, зокрема кінопокази українських низових режисерів, які були відкриті місцевій публіці. Окрім цього був організований кінофестиваль на вечірці ''Кепсько'' (14.05.2022) та перший дводенний публічний показ Хтонічними стежками.
Влітку 2022 року стався розкол всередині львівського колективу, що призвело до тривалого застою, який триває і понині. Проте найближчим часом очікується новий сезон у розвитку філії, слідкуйте за анонсами!
With the beginning of the war, the Lviv branch of the film studio was opened on the territory of the former REM plant. The Lviv branch of the film studio was based in the revitalized toilet of the factory premises. The solemn opening of the Lviv studio occured on April 26, 2022 by cutting a metal ribbon with a bulgarian, after which begining the gala premieres: Retrograde Mercury and Anus of Infinity via Yarik Prykhodko and Zhan Hryshin.

The Lviv branch was most active during the spring period, when a series of film events occured under the auspices of Perdak Productions, including film screenings of ukrainian grassroots directors, which were open to the local public. In addition was organized a film festival at the party "Kepsko" (14.05.2022) and the first two-day public film screening of Chthonic Paths.
In the summer of 2022, there was a split within the Lviv team, which lead to a long stagnation that during to this day. However, a new season in the development of the branch is expected in the near future, stay tuned!
