In this piece, the concept of knolling was explored, paired with the theme of developing a self-portrait. But the truth is, I don’t know who I am, and therefore I can’t even begin to imagine what my self portrait would look like.
However, one thing I do know is that I am a product of my experiences. Everything I have ever experienced has changed me and molded me into who I am. Memories, good and bad affect me and what I do and how I act. I’ll never be one image. One self portrait will never encompass who I am, because I will continue to have experiences that change me.
The following is just a glimpse of who I am thus far, and the experiences that have gotten me to where I am, and make up the woman I am today.
The visual aesthetic relies heavily on the idea of creating shadowboxes that store memories and nostalgic objects that represent experiences I have had. The experiences include: getting diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 4, meeting and being with my long-term partner, and coming full circle in my design abilities through my education at SCAD. The piece should feel warm, rustic, and nostalgic/old-fashioned. Collections of objects will be shown to exemplify my interest in collecting.
