Book Cover Design
The publishing house "Omonia" in Romania approached me to design a book cover. The book is a translated version of the best-selling book "Magdalena, Magda, Maggie..." in Cyprus (2004).
The story, in a nutshell, is about a woman, Magdalena, in her fifties who left Cyprus 35 years ago to study Architecture in England. There, she marries a rich colleague who ends up having a successful career whereas she, takes care of their three children leaving her without a career. During all these years she has lost any connection with the island and her friends. An unexpected encounter with a past friend, brings back old flames and memories making her leave in search for meaning.
Based on the story, I came up with the idea of making a collage. Her present, identified by a scene in England VS her past, identified by a scene in Cyprus. Furthermore, that would be enhanced by a torn paper symbolising her detachment from the past.
