This year my unek (bro) and I had the honor of work for one of the most important projects and institutions in the history of our country. The Colombian Truth Commission. As part of its Final Report they asked us to help in the making of a very special book: 

Historias de Verdad: Palabra, vida y obra de las mujeres indígenas de Colombia - Stories of truth: Words, life and works of the Colombian indigenous women.

A hard look inside some of the testimonies of women of the different Colombian Indigenous Nations who have suffered for centuries all kind of violence against their bodies, lives and territories.

A hard work, specially emotionally for all the team working in the project and for us in particular. I'm "white", a mestizo, my unek is part of the Nasa indigenous nation. Every testimony (part of the 30.000 the Commission collected) included was a challenge, a hard confrontation with our dark history.

We cried a lot, we remade the book several times, we are so deeply proud of be part of this process in the pursuit of peace, of understanding and perhaps a better future.

We divided the work. My unek Gustavo Yonda Canencio was the one with the task of illustrate each testimony. Each story which speaks not only for the women but also for the communities.

My work was the art direction, the design of the covers, the layout and the creation of some mandalas based on my unek's artworks.

So, finally after several months we can share with all of you this small but beautiful book. Please know there are some hard testimonies in it, crimes against humanity, but also love and hope.
