Walworth Community Pub

This project was created during my MA User Experience course in collaboration with 7 other students. For this project we partnered with The Peoples pub Partnership. Our brief called for us to materialise the community governance model for pub. Throughout the course of 7 weeks we explored the key qualities of British pubs in London, the notion of community and how to build a tool that could prompt community engagement.
Throughout the design process we used several key research methods to explore the notion of a community pub. Using methods such as AEIO, body storming, probes and prototypes, we were able to gather a vast amount of detailed research that was vital to our final outcome.

For our final outcome, we did not just want to create an event that showcased what community governance is, but instead a tool we could give back to the community to continue building social interaction and communication once the project was over.

Therefore we held an event that showcased our model of a portable community pub. We created two probes aimed to gather information and inspire other pub owners. The prompts revolved around local stories and food and beverages as these were some of the most important factors highlighted in our research.
Co-design was a key aspect of this project due to the community nature. Therefore the key feature of the cart was the pub sign. Individuals were encouraged to each decorate one square and co design the sign as a community.
Our event sparked communication, and created a safe and encouraging space for people to spend time together.
