In 2022, the Southern Aurora celebrated it’s 60th year, although not in regular daily revenue running service, the Southern Aurora is used solely as a tourist train that allows day to weeklong trips away in the hidden gems of Regional Victoria, Regional NSW.

Transport Heritage NSW, Vintage Train Journeys and St James Rail offers this train though the years gave this train a new beginning as a chartered luxury offering, similar to the Journey Beyond trains.

With the events of the issues of Southern Aurora lacking locomotives due to a weather related incident at Picton which isolated the locomotives at Thirlmere, NSW. The Seymour Railway Heritage Centre was hired on to assist with the weeklong operations from Sydney Central to Melbourne and back.
