Exhibition Space & Artist's Atelier + Live in Studio

Task:
Design a Contemporary Exhibition Place & Artist Studio and it's related public spaces required
ÜVEGHÁZ = Glasshouse
Location: 1054 Budapest, Vadász utca 29.

Archive original photo & Nowadays out of character building photos
My aim:
- Is to entirely restore the facade
- And it's glass structural elements as close to the original as possible
- I try to approach the innovative mindset of Kozma & the Weiss family
Focusing on the most improver & conscious products of our current age
as they did it in theirs.
- To express contemporary consciousness
I would introduce AUReus solar energy harvester, vegetal based, electricity producing system on the glass surfaces    where it is permitting. This technology is 10 times more effective than regular solar panels and could ideally work          with indirect light. Making it very ideal in cities and vertical surfaces. See suggestions below:
Eco Conscious, energy generating, solar system on glass surfaces
Tasks:

- Design a Exhibition Space & Artist's Studio and Accomodation : as Task 1
- Provide Free access to every site for disabled according to EU & local regulations
- Create a multifunctional area for Social events & Cafe, Catering
- Choose a hungarian contemporary artist to the exhibition place
- Make temporary Exhibition Design supporting the artist's works the most

- Wasnt: to create memory room, related to historical events at this location
(my note: I would place it on the upper two floors to represent it in more details with dignity)

+ On the top of the requirements I created a Gift Shop by the Entrance / Exit

Hiding in the Glasshouse
I did make certain indications to provide references to the past though

What stays? What comes?
- SeaStone, Plasticiet & CargoCollective  sustainable coverings are used on the entire       flooring and in wet areas on walls instead of tiles

- Glass stairwells are restored and untouched in style & must be protected

- All remaining heritage & structural elements of the building are preserved

- On the coloured floorplan, the former garage & service area turned into a
temporary Exhibiton Space / as you can see at bottom & right side below

Task 5:
References to the past:
" C U " Café Bar & Catering

The bar stools are crediting to the light metal, tubular furniture design of Marcel Breuer. Who at the formation of the Bauhaus, took the idea of bent, canteliver chairs from a bicycle's frame.
His iconic pieces are directly not shown, but all later inspirations are all around.

My custom graphic design for " C U " Café & Bar menus
Naming of the Café and even the brand name of the espresso machine is choosen to relate to the building's name & it's former products. Also a play on letters & meanings in english.
References to the past:

Sound insulating Olaf B. 's  'black & white people' wall carpet is selected to symbolize how people were hiding
in the GLASSHOUSE as a hint to history.

(The then empty building of the GLASSHOUSE in 1944 became the Department of Foreign Interest for Emmigration of the Swiss Consulate in the occupied Hungary. Here Carl Lutz as Vice Consul opened up the doors for persecuted Jewish people. Where from the officially permitted 7000.- he issued individual & group/family passports up to 62.000.- people to escape from the nazis, saving their life! The entire building - as one of the 76 official safe houses in  Budapest- was also a temporary shelter for hopeful, innocent people, hiding from the authoritarian arbitrary forces. From the 26th June, 1944 and later throughout an opened hole in the wall  to the adjacent Headquarters of the Hungarian Football League about 2-3000 people were hiding hereAfter the war, Lutz was initially reprimanded for having gone too far in his efforts, but just much later was vindicated and honored by the Swiss government in 1957.)

Challange:
How to give for the art pieces - that carry figuratively strong messages - an extra dimension
at this particular area, at Üvegház ?

idea+

- I created thin pillars to hold art & permit to see beyond them.
- Oval shaped tilted mirror & reflective flooring was designed to enhace visitors
  experience
- Feeling of space and supporting Erik Mátrai's art work in all physical
perspectives & dimensions integrating them to ÜVEGHÁZ
Understanding : Porticus (1:50mins)
idea +

I placed mirrors on the wall as seen, to give infinite dimension to enlarge space. Enhancing visitors experience of the dark / light installation.

The original floorplans of ÜVEGHÁZ
About it's Architect:
The building was designed by Lajos Kozma (L. Fuchs) and was built in 1934. Who as a young scholar was learning how to paint with Henri Matisse in Paris.
From interior & graphic design succesess, after art deco he turned towards avantguard / bauhaus. He designed villas, apartment blocks, a cinema and exhibition pavilions.
With fresh, clean and then the most contemporary way in 'bauhaus style'.

About the owner & the building:
- Üvegház was created for Gyula Weiss a wholesaler of architectural glass products.
  According to the architects vision
- All kinds of purchasable glass items were built in the facade & used inside the building as well.
- Merging the new style with newly available modern materials
- All definitively stayed out well from the eclectic streets of Budapest.
- Representing the progress of that age determinative up to today.
