Playing with houdini is amazing and there is so much myth behind it. If you give it a try, you will realized that is very user-friendly. Proceduralism makes a lot of things "design-friendly" since you can just drag and drop nodes and makes adjustments on the fly without destroying or commit a certain iteration. it's definitely a tool that every 3d artist should have on their arsenal.
