We have been asked to produce a website to host an initiative of the Municipality of Athens for Social Entrepreneurship. Social Entrepreneurship is a business model that combines the efficiency and sustainability of a company with the purposes and values of an organization social purpose. Goal of a social enterprise is, working independently, lucrative and provide a positive social impact. This model is a development tool and may propose creative and viable solutions to the challenges facing the city.
The new initiative of the Athens Municipality and the Development and Tourism Promotion Organization of Athens (EFF) hosted a launch event on 26/9/13 which aimed to inform the public about social entrepreneurship in Athens and to inspire a new generation of social entrepreneurs.
Objectives of the event were:
- The introduction of the concept of social entrepreneurship-
- The Presentation of good practices, policies and legal framework in Greece and abroad
- The Presentation of the positive social impact made by social enterprises worldwide
- The inspiration of a new generation of social entrepreneurs in Greece
For the purposes of the event, a wide range of speakers had been invited from the field of social entrepreneurship and non, which shared knowledge, ideas and experiences with the audience. The day included presentations by academics, policy makers, representatives of prominent organizations and successful social entrepreneurs. The last part's focus was on Greek efforts and examples to highlight precisely the local ecosystem.
