In 2022, Ford is releasing the Ford F-150 Lightning, a groundbreaking electric vehicle with a name that hearkens back to the sporty V-8 trucks that defined the F-150 line in the 1990s. Priced in the low $40,000 range for base models, the next-generation truck features a dual-motor system that provides power to all four wheels while reaching 60 mph in just four seconds. Available with an extended-range battery, the Lightning features 563 hp and has four distinct drive modes: normal, off-road, sport, and tow/haul.
With a maximum payload capacity of 2,000 pounds, the vehicle capably tows 10,000 pounds. Its standard range is 230 miles, but drivers can expect 320 miles of driving with an extended-range battery. With the latter option in place, owners are also provided with an 80-amp charging station for residential use. In addition, the F-150 Lightning can power residences for between three to 10 days in cases of an extended power outage.
The F-150 Lightning is only the first of an expansive upcoming lineup of Ford electric trucks that looks set to include Maverick Lightning and Ranger Lightning models, as well as Thunder F-150, Maverick, and Ranger vehicles.
