Ebook Covers for Fashion Elearning Course

Graphics FOR An e-learning program
THE BRIEF:
To design 12 e-book covers and e-book page templates for an online fashion diploma course.

THE CHALLENGE:
My biggest challenge in this project was that all the existing courses that the E-learning company offered had photographic covers only. They were open to new ideas but a bit hesitant to change.
I wanted to design a concept that was not only different from what was already being done but also modern and cutting edge apt for a new-age digital course.

FINDINGS:
When i started researching, most of the educational covers i came across were photographs but I was able to find inspiration in book covers being done for graphic and typography courses and explore that idea further for the fashion course.
Having studied fashion and coming from a fashion design background myself - I understood the sentiment of the student as well as the energy of the industry.
The idea was to strike a happy balance between dynamic covers that represented the dynamic nature of the fashion industry that were also modern and apt for academic purposes.

THE DESIGN PITCH: ( phase 1)

I looked at 20th century modern art and minimalistic line illustrations as my inspiration and initially presented two sub concepts under the wider concept of graphical covers. The stakeholders and team loved the concept and were leaving towards the first concept so I explored that further in Phase 2.
THE DESIGN PITCH: ( phase 2)

I explore the minimalistic and linear art concept further for all 12 modules.
A big part of designing each cover for all the modules as well as choosing the colors was to carefully study the contents of each module and their main learning objectives.

Each of the 12 covers were created to represent the content of the E-BOOK. The colours presented were pastel and neutral hues so as not to overpower the graphics and still look cohesive together.

For example, i chose a cobalt for the Pattern Making module because making patterns in the garment industry is fairly clinical process. Cobalt blue also represented the blue dots in the pattern paper used across the industry. The linear graphic created was inspired by the drafted pattern of a shirt.
THE DESIGN PITCH: ( phase 3)

Keeping the aesthetic minimal and the design consistent, I took forward the concept into the inside page designs for the e-book. The typography chosen was bold but mimimal.
Arial Font and Futura Medium which minimalistic and casual fonts were used for headings and sub-headings.
Minion Concept Variable which is a more modern font was chosen for the main body text.

The Module Color is consistently used for sub-headings or to highlight certain headings in the e-book.
