I recently had the pleasure of being assigned a cover/editorial project by David Yount, Art Director for the National Fire Protection Association Journal (NFPA Journal®). The NFPA Journal® is the official magazine of NFPA and reaches all Association members. The photo involved photographing the State of Texas Fire Marshall, Chris Connealy at the West, Texas chemical plant explosion site. Having shot there during the days immediately following the explosion last year, I had a sense of where the story was. Most associated structures had been demolished and removed leaving a very sterile and vacant environment. Foundations were all we had to work with. Light and sky became the resulting focus of the images conveying a visual emotion commensurate with the impact of the disaster.
