Floating is new media art installation located in the lobby of Shanghai MEEN & EAT by TBC / GUBEI branch. MEEN & EAT is a high-end food court with a collection of stores, integrating fashion, avant-garde and modernity. The installation is composed by LED floating bulbs and see thought LED screen, all digital controlled using a real-time rendering system creating content for the screen and lighting effects.
Visual content is generate by creative programming, breaking through the traditional way of rendering and video production, but using WYSIWYG real-time rendering technology to quickly modify and correct the visual output. In the self-built system, screen and bulbs are in constant communication, each part use the others part’s date to generate effects.
The hardware side adopts stage lifting equipment, which controls 41 lifting machines to operate independently through DMX signals, not only abandoning the light console or single lighting control software, but also integrating screen vision and lighting effects. The color of the light ring and the light ball will automatically pick up the screen content to generate a matching color dynamic effect, and there is no need to set it independently. At the same time, different themes and different lifting and floating changes are all rendered in real time by a set of systems. Different layouts are designed to combine different shapes and create different atmospheres for the whole space.
In addition to the completed effects, more interfaces can be placed, so that more interactive effects can be added at any time, such as the interaction between sound and lifting system and screen content. Compared with traditional production methods, it greatly breaks the limitations and allows the installation to give life and the possibility of evolution.
