GoatHotSpot
Lounge zone of speculative internet provider. 2021. Artificial lawn, three video screens, authorized wi-fi network, model goat, video projection, wires for charging phones.
Exhibited at “Assuming Distance: Speculations, Fakes, and Predictions in the Age of the Coronacene” in the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art.
GoatHotSpot first invented by for the first Altai Biennale of Contemporary Art (2020), taking place in the Uymonskaya Steppe. APXIV were concerned about the availability of wireless internet in this remote area, a modern basic necessity. The result of the research was a speculative start-up: ironic innovative idea of using Altai goats as new “useful animals” (Alexander Pschera’s term) to create an extensive wi-fi network in the area. Presented at the Garage Museum as a fake promotional lounge zone of a start-up. This form of re-appropriation of marketing technology was chosen as critically highlighting the colonial and exploitative origins of platform capitalism.
