Discover #MontblancSigned: The Invisibles.

A celebration of Montblanc Haus and its very first temporary exhibition, showcasing limited edition writing instruments from over 30 years, dedicated to Patrons of Art such as Alexander von Humboldt, Queen Victoria & Prince Albert, or Henry E. Steinway
As my linear ink strokes echoes Montblanc Haus’ mountain lines, they invited me to contribute to their temporary exhibition by creating six large scale artworks, detailed enough to understand and remember the narrative which inspired the design of the Writing Instruments exhibited for the occasion.

Borghese
Borghese is considered as the greatest collector and patron of roman art.
I took inspiration from his impressive landscape garden at Villa Borghese, whose ensemble of art and nature attained international fame during his time. This is a cabinet of curiosities, shaped like a cardinal’s hat.
The inside of the cabinet is crowned with precious stones of coral, jade, bull’s eye and opal. The top of the frame featured an engraved nib with the Borghese vase. And the bottom is crowned with a mother-of-pearl.
In the landscape garden we can see the clip of the pen, in relation to the branches of the trees, also crowned by a quartz stone. The inside of the frame is all about discovering the very unique and intricate elements used to make a Borghese Montblanc Pen.It is organised as a simple designed cabinet, so that every item is placed with all due respect and care.
We can see the Borghese vase, a fossil of a dinosaur, a mammoth and a coral.

Henry E. Steinway
Steinway had a vision to “build the best piano possible.”
The gigantic hand is used as a reference to his craftsmanship and shaped like a grand piano, which still serves as the firm principles of traditional piano building.
It also represents the Steinway Hall, with people standing at the entrance.
The palm of the hand is open as we discover inside the cross-stringing pattern of a Steinway piano.

Queen Victoria & Prince Albert
Queen Victoria & Prince Albert whose commitment to each other not only set a moral example that redefined royalty,
but also built a foundation of the dynasty that stretched across Europe.
A story of devotion and promise of a long-lasting commitment to each other I wanted to bring together.

Moctezuma I
Moctezuma I (1) was known as a ruler of the Great Aztec Empire who shaped a state rich in culture and mythology that we are familiar with today. Inspired by Montblanc's cap, I designed a solid temple-like shape.
The Aztec sun disc is seated at the base with two sacrificial knives next to it. Throughout the mosaic bodies of the two-headed serpents, houses representations of Mexico City are drawn.

Alexander Von Humboldt
Humboldt was a German naturalist, an explorer and one of the founders of modern geography. His expeditions are regarded as having laid the foundation of the sciences of physical geography and meteorology.
Using a sextant, I anchor many aspects of Humboldt's life and career.
On the rock, Humboldt contemplates the shore with a boat and his team, ready to discover native Indian culture.
From the ground up, we see a boat navigating through dramatic waves, pointing towards the pen's nib. Symbolising his expedition to Latin America, the sextant's apex features an eagle, while the limbe is carved with a pattern representing Indian culture, echoing the pen's silver detailing.

Marquise de Pompadour
The Rococo muse. A keen lover of art with a passion for architecture.
I thought of drawing a porcelain vase “blooming” revealing the beauty of Rococo.
The vase also depicts the face of Madame de Pompadour in a Rococo-inspired design.
The flowers illustrated on the vase are the ones we could find on the pen,
while those at the bottom are real as if they come out to life.

Campaign Artwork
Throughout the world, this illustration was used to promote the exhibition.
I sought to create a singular narrative that connected the 6 Patrons of Art I have illustrated and exhibited.
An illusionary Montblanc nib is revealed by a Trompe l'oeil.
