The Heˈlō Project

The Hә’lō Project is about taking a second look at first impressions.
It’s about using design to break down the digital divide in South Africa.
It’s about looking at how job-seekers, artisans and craftsmen are introduced to their communities.
It’s about collaborating and creating branding and marketing to achieve this.
It’s about you. And me. And everybody
Laycee Upholstery & Sofa Manufacturing is run by Phillip Halidi from a garage in Hout Bay, Cape Town. He works magic with material and furniture. He is a specialist in reupholstering and manufacturing chairs, couches, headboards, Ottoman dining chairs, cushions, loose covers, blinds and duvet covers.

This is Philip. He learnt how to sew in Malawi. He then came to South Africa and learnt upholstery in Durban. He now lives and works in Cape Town. He has worked for other people all his life but has now decided to go on his own and start his own company. When he has big orders he employes up to 6 people to help him.
Philip named the company after his son; Laycee. Laycee is two now.
The back of the card. I took elements of the Malawian flag as inspiration for his visual direction as he said he wanted his nationality to be reflected. I used a material texture for the background to visually communicate what he does. He wanted a design that was sophisticated and elegant to attract the right kind of clients.
I illustrated classic furniture for the front of the card
Front of the card: couch
Front of the card: bed with head board
Front of the card: chair
There are three different versions of the card so he can decide which card to give a potential client according to what they need from him. So if someone is looking to reupholster a couch, he would give them the business card with the couch illustration.
