Typography

TragicGrotesk
A non-neutral 16 style Grotesque w/ references from the design of the late 19th century. »DIN«-esque straight lines were injected into the round shapes. And the ever so slightly curved diagonal strokes nod to the calligraphic origins of type. In total Tragic Grotesk conveys warmth and digital clarity.

»DIN«-esque straight elements add a technical side to the design — thereby stretching the otherwise very round letters. This helps to balance the general feel of the typeface to preserve the best from both worlds: Warmth vs. technicality. Moving through the weights from Thin to Ultra the wedge-shaped straight element flips its appearance inside out.
To accentuate the human aspect of the typefaces the diagonals of »Tragic Grotesk« are curved ever so slightly. This adds a bit of a calligraphic and thereby a warm touch to letters such as A, K, k, V, v, X, x, Y and y.

Some characters (I, i, J, j, G, a and l) have alternate forms. They may be used to change the feel of the typeface slightly. OpenType features make it possible to globally access and change these forms across a text or document.
