The Persona

The persona is a model of the psyche, complicated system of relations, a mediator between the individual consciousness and the society. The mask contains all the primitive urges, impulses, and emotions, that are not considered socially acceptable. As it develops, on the one hand, makes a definite impression on others, and on the other hand, conceals the true nature of the individual. We all embody different masks in the different settings, as it is our way to adapt to the demands of the society. Having a mask plays an important part in shaping our social role and in how we deal with other people. But it has its own dangers too. One cannot individuate, as long as one is playing a role to oneself; the convictions one has about oneself are the most subtle forms of persona and at the same time, the most subtle obstacles against any true individuation.
