Palladian Titling

Palladian Titling is a display typeface based on architectural details found
in classic Roman architecture. The spirals take inspiration from the volutes found on Ionic column capitals, with the stems acting as the column’s shaft. The angled crossbars reflect the shape of the pediments seen on famous buildings throughout Rome, such as the Pantheon.

Behind the Name — The Origin of Palladianism.

Palladianism was an approach to architecture strongly influenced by the sixteenth century Italian architect and theorist Andrea Palladio, best known for his villas, palaces, and churches located within the Venetian Republic.
Seeking to revive the principles which underpinned ancient Roman architecture, he stressed the importance of proportion, symmetry, and the correct use of the classical orders.

Palladio’s designs were greatly influenced by ‘De Architectura’, a treatise
on Classic architecture, written by Roman architect, Marcus Vitruvius. Palladianism bespeaks rationality in its clarity and order, while also paying homage to antiquity, in its use of classical forms and decorative motifs, similarly to Palladian Titling.
