New Programs at The Frank C. Ortis Art Gallery and City of Pembroke Pines
Upfront in the Pines - Educational Cultural Display
The City of Pembroke Pines Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is proud to present, "Upfront in the Pines" a rotating exhibition series that focuses on culture, education and history. Since it's inception in September 2021, displays have celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month, Veterans Day, Holiday Traditions in Florida, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Black History Month, Women's History Month, and Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.Visitors of the Charles F. Dodge City Center lobby can discover and celebrate significant histories and cultures through an array of media provided through a novel partnership with the Florida Memory program. Upfront in the Pines is a rotating educational exhibition series consisting of photographs, images and information that acknowledge important cultural observances. Displays were also translated into video for virtual programming.
A 'Wish Tree' Finds a Home in Pembroke Pines
The City of Pembroke Pines and The Frank initiated a 'Wish Tree' in celebration of The Frank’s exhibition, ‘Elemental: Terra, Tide & Time.’ During the opening reception, visitors could write down their wishes for the environment and tie them to the tree. 

The Wish Tree is now planted at Rose G. Price Park which is located at 901 NW 208th Ave in Pembroke Pines. Next to the Wish Tree is a sign with a QR for all visitor at the park to submit a digital wish. Make your own digital wish here.
First Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Student Poetry Contest
The City of Pembroke Pines invited students attending school or residing in Pembroke Pines to respond to a call for original poetry, spoken word or creative writing pieces. In recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, this literature competition aims to bring together the voices of the local youth with their reflections of Dr. King’s legacy. Three winners were selected from categories established by grade levels. Three jurors were provided the submissions with a grading scale to judge the works. Winners were announced during the City of Pembroke Pines Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Breakfast in which they read their poem and were awarded a $50 gift card.
The Frank Celebrates National Arts in Education Week : September 2021
The Frank Art Gallery and Exhibit Hall presented, "Social Sculpture: An Introduction to Performance Art" with Veronica Fazzio in recognition of National Arts in Education Week, September 12th through 18th. Delve into the fascinating world of performance art in this virtual artist talk series by Argentinian performance artist and sculptor Veronica Fazzio. Designed for adult learners, Veronica Fazzio presents parts of her doctoral thesis "Social Sculpture: A Plastic Process of Mutual Transformation," as an introduction to performance art, its origins, and various forms through her artistic practice. Presented in partnership with Broward Cultural Division.
