Outside work, I sketch doodle concepts of imaginary machine as a hobby. Over the years, I collected a handful of such sketches. Some I have posted here on Behance. As a modelling / design exercise, I decided to reinterpret these 2D sketch in to 3D in short one-day modeling session, giving these old concept a second life. 

The original 2012 concept sketch of Aero Racer G1 shows a simpler geometry with two forward mount engines as its most dominate feature. I like its simple and bold proportion, but during 3D reinterpretation, I decided to add bit mechanical rationales: How does it hover? The massive forward mount engines reminded me of ground effect vehicles. Thus, in the 3D model, taking elements from ground effect vehicles, I added a flat "wing" feature under the fuselage and a sizeable aft stabilizer.

The most fascinating aspect of bring 2D into 3D is that now I can check the design all from any angle I like. I kept the model is this light stylist render effect. It is a fast effect, but also showcase the form. Since I have the model now, I will certain explore different render styles and even medias in the following up exercise.
