LECTURA EN VOZ ALTA

The librarian used to drink a big sip of water, and waited to all the students to be quiet. She used to sit in a wooden chair, and us, the little girls, on the floor, waiting for the librarian to read the chapter of the book out loud. On that year (around 1993), the librarian read us 'Matilda', 'The Witches', and other short stories from the 'Goosebumps' collection.
I can perfectly remember feeling so happy while listening to her reading, she had a delightful tone of voice, and I think that she loved to share those books and the fantasy stories in them that left my head in a perfect daydream world. Even nowadays, I love to listen readings out loud.
I did this illustration for the cover of the new issue of the literary magazine 'Alondra', from Funza (Colombia), whose content is dedicated to out loud readings. Some of the elements displayed on the illustration are part of the culture of the municipality, such as the pre-columbian statue that is located on the central park, the flowers' crops, the skate practice, milk production, etc.

La bibliotecaria tomaba un sorbo de agua y esperaba a que todas estuviéramos en silencio. Ella se sentaba en una silla y nosotras en el suelo, muy atentas al capítulo que nos leería ese día en voz alta. Ese año (tal vez 1993) nos leyó Matilda, Las Brujas, y algunos cuentos de Escalofríos.
Recuerdo mucho la felicidad que me producía escucharla leer, tenía un tono encantador, se notaba que le gustaba compartirnos esas historias fantásticas que la mayoría de veces me dejaban con la cabeza en un delicioso mundo de ensueño. Aún hoy día me encanta que me lean cuentos.
Hice esta ilustración para el nuevo número de Revista Literaria Alondra del municipio de Funza, dedicado precisamente a la lectura en voz alta.
