Ben & Jerry’s recently stopped selling their products in the illegal Israeli settlements, making one of many bold, political statements from the company. With this, the ice cream brand enables the “Free Palestine” movement alongside numerous left wingers. I believe this is a positive stance for the brand to take on, representing the need of a separate Palestinian nation. In a way, the company is participating in culture-jamming by depicting ideas that are controversial in the mainstream.

With this, I created ice cream patterns for 4 flavors: Cherry Garcia , Mint Chocolate Chance, Netflix & Chilll’d, and Strawberry Topped Tart. Each pattern features a symbol of the conflict; Cherry Garcia has bomb-like cherry bits, Mint Chocolate Chance has gun-shaped chocolate chips, Netflix & Chilll’d has CNN logo pieces using the “N” from Netflix, and Strawberry Topped Tart has green and white star sprinkles to reminisce on the Palestinian flag. I then used these patterns to fill the iconic fist symbol of fighting for civil rights used in many protests.
