This project began with a reference photo of a blue jay with its mouth open. I specifically chose this picture because it makes the bird look more serious, and more like a mascot. I started the process by loosely drawing lines to determine the shape of the bird. Next, I started to combine these lines to make the figure. After lots of playing around, I was able to create a black and white version of my bird, using gestalt principles to create shadows and highlights within the bird. I chose yellow to go with the blue color to tie in the color of the eye with the rest of the piece. In all of my photoshop pieces I used perspective and blending modes to make the mockups look more realistic.
