India Holidays for the Solo Traveller
India is a top tourist destination because of its many natural and manmade wonders, the exotic, colorful foods and art and the weather. India Holidays are perfect for solo travelers too as for the most part India is a safe place to travel through. If you're a woman looking for a solo holiday you may have heard conflicting rum ours about safety in India but I know plenty of women who have travelled through India without incident. Women's solo travel groups india You will from time to time hear smutty remarks as some of the local men do consider foreign women to be 'easy' but for the most part the Indian people are welcoming and more than willing to help. You will be asked endless questions about if you're married, if you have children, what you do for a living and if you know their aunty in London but this is all just the Indian way. If you do feel nervous about travelling solo in India then there are plenty of solo holiday companies that run group holidays to India.
On a group holiday you'll often be in a mixed group of friends, couples and singles or if you choose a specialist singles trip it will just be you and a whole bunch (usually about 15) other single travelers. These tours are always accompanied by a tour leader, usually a local, so you can feel safe in the knowledge they know their way around, know the local customs and the best places to visit. Not only will you have the safety of company, you will most likely make new friends too. Many a couple have fallen in love outside the Taj Mahal or women bonded over the shared experience of using the 'outdoor squat' toilet. A solo holiday doesn't have to mean staying in cheap hotels alone, eating alone or asking strangers to take photos of you. On a group adventure you have the company of like-minded individuals looking to share their experiences and also spend a little time alone. You can interact with your group as much or as little as you like.
Your India trip can be as wonderful as you are willing to make it. Relax and take the chaos in your stride, sample all the local dishes and embrace the friendliness of everyone you meet. The Indian people have a lot to say and will regale you with stories about their family, country and religion. India is dirty, smelly and filled with character. In the holy places, such as the Ganges and Amritsar, you will encounter grieving families, holy men draped in orange robes and painted in bright colors, and these places will be the most touristy. In the mountains old colonial houses, now converted to hotels, stand a sign of a history gone, an array of wildlife haunt the national parks and hills, from monkeys to wild elephants and maybe even the tiger. Add a trip to Goa and you'll experience a laidback, almost hippy vibe, beautiful beaches and in Varanasi, you can find out why it's the oldest inhabited city in the world, a sacred place for Hindus.
