This is a self motivated project i did recently. I wanted to create portraits of Victorian gentlemen who where not as stiff and rigid as seen in old black and white photographs. This involved lots of experimenting with different shapes and lines to build up the texture in each of the characters appearances. I didn’t plan any of the characters, generally going with what ever i felt looked right. I think some are more successful than others but that’s the fun of doing lots of doodling. I like the fact that they could potentially be quite serious characters if it wasn’t for all the extra features i have added. The strange mix of colours and patterns adds to the overall surreal effect.
