ABSORPTION: The state of operation in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energised focus, full involvement and enjoyment in the process of the activity.
Peter Savage spent 2018 as ‘photographer in residence’; responding to the activities that occur in and around Cornerstone Arts Centre.
He became particularly interested in the state of absorption that is possible when people engage with creative activities.

Through a process of engaging with and documenting classes and workshop at Cornerstone and Great Western Park, he then respond with a set of staged images that re-present these moments of creative absorption.
To celebrate 10 years of the arts centre the architectural drawings of the Cornerstone Arts Centre -Ellis Williams Architects- were remade as blueprints using the cyanotype process.
The process, introduced by Sir John Herschel in 1842, uses ammonium ferric citrate and potassium ferricyanide to create a light sensitive paper. The paper is ‘exposed’ using daylight and ‘processed’ in water, to create a distinctive blue image. This process was used to produce technical drawings and architects plans until the 1940s.
